This autumn, residents of Oakland, San Francisco who are planning their upcoming events can order unique, decadent, and extravagant cakes from the black owned Full Belly Bakery, which opened its doors on October 20, 2023. Started in 2017 by San Francisco native Eva Allen, Full Belly Bakery (a name that is impossible to say without smiling) operated primarily online, but as of yesterday, has unveiled their first brick-and-mortar location to the delight of the local community.
The Menu
The designer cake studio’s menu is decidedly decadent, yet stays true to Allen’s vision of quality and affordability. The bakery features three main cake collections, some available seasonally and some year-round. The Gratification Collection, which is the bakery’s core menu, features five staple cake flavors available throughout the year. The second tier, named the Indulgence Collection, introduces three seasonal selections. Last but not least, the inaugural Extravagant Collection features a pistachio sponge cake enriched with Moro blood orange curd, whipped Ambanja, and Madagascar chocolate ganache, crowned with a layer of edible 24K gold leaf, priced at $575—an experience, in the designer’s own words.
With only a couple of bakeries in the Oakland neighborhood and none that offer the level of sophistication and attention to detail that Full Belly does, expect it to be busy. Orders can easily be placed online with local pickup available in Oakland, Concord, San Francisco, Sunnyvale, San Jose, and Mountain View, and delivery throughout the East Bay.
For party planners, the menu includes pastries alongside cakes, featuring banana and quick breads, an assortment of tarts, cookies, chocolate truffles, gluten-free cheesecakes, scones, cake slices, and cake cups readily available.
