But if you’re tired of fighting the crowds, let’s take a look at other top picks that should get some more glory.
Hudson River Park
The pipe fish! This colorful feature of the Chelsea Waterside Playground was built by the same architect responsible for designing the White House. The playground hosts water features, sand areas, plenty of grass for sports, and ample seating areas for parents and caregivers to relax while watching their children play. There are also picnic tables and grassy areas where families can enjoy a picnic or outdoor gathering. And the views of the Hudson River are gorgeous!

Domino Park
The site of an old sugar factory has slides, conveyor belts, tunnels and other exciting amenities such as Sugarcane Cabin, Sweetwater Silo and Sugar Cube Centrifuge. The kids love the sandy beach volleyball court, and multi-purpose sports field suitable for various sports activities, including soccer, baseball, and more. There are plenty of seating areas with benches, picnic tables, and grassy lawns, providing space to relax, have picnics, or simply sunbathe. Get your yum from food vendors and a concession stand. And take in all the beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline and Williamsburg Bridge from one of the park’s many benches.

Gantry Plaza State Park
It’s the classic children’s fun that’s become so rare to find – spinning, egglike saucers, a huge spiderweb and three modern jungle gyms. The park features several piers and waterfront walkways, offering visitors the opportunity to take leisurely walks along the river and enjoy the fresh air. The park is really well maintained, so get ready to be impressed! Get your picnic on amongst seasonal flowers, trees, and loads of green lawn with basketball and handball courts. Plus it’s fully designed to be accessible to individuals with disabilities. It provides ramps, accessible paths, and other facilities to ensure that everyone can enjoy the park’s amenities.

Riverbank State Park
This Japanese-inspired multi-level park offers a wide array of attractions, including playgrounds, indoor and outdoor pools, a roller skating rink, the unique Totally Kid Carousel, and breathtaking views of the George Washington Bridge and New Jersey. There are plenty of areas to spread out a blanket, and numerous picnic tables are available throughout the park. It’s important to note that permits are required for gatherings of 15 people or more, and during the summer, picnic tables are often reserved in advance. In the off-season, tables are available on a first come, first served basis, with a limit of three tables per family. While grilling is not permitted, you are welcome to bring takeout or a picnic lunch.

Corona Park
The 898 acre park features two designated barbecue areas, perfect for outdoor grilling, as well as a picturesque lake surrounded by spacious lawns, ideal for picnicking. We love the multiple playgrounds, splash pad, and the Fantasy Forest mini-amusement park, the Flushing Meadows Carousel and loads of amusement park kiddie rides. There are designated picnic table areas and comfortable seating on the benches conveniently located near the merry-go-round. Restroom facilities are also available nearby for added convenience. It’s important to note that a permit is required for gatherings of 20 or more people.
