Birthday Parties can be a stressful time. I’ve totally given up trying to plan my children’s parties all alone. That’s why you have Yombu! And that’s why I’m going to share my top tips for taking the stress out of party planning.

Keep it short

You’d be surprised how slow two hours can feel when you have a room full of busy kids, trust me! Also, added to that the fact that smaller kids can’t hold themselves together for longer than that and you have scientific backing that you’re allowed to keep it short.

Don’t try to be Martha Stewart

Trying to bake it all yourself is noble, but if you’re anything like me, you have round hands when it comes to the culinary arts. Also, children aren’t fussy. If it’s yummy, they’ll eat it. I always head to my local bakery for awesome birthday cakes and keep the rest finger-foody. Simple!

Get an entertainer

I don’t know about you, but I don’t have a cape and tights lying around. I always count on the help of a professional child whisperer to keep the children busy. If you’d prefer to be more hands-on, doing something that keeps their hands, or legs, busy for a while is a great idea. Think craft activities or sports. Or call up Yombu!

Invite other parents

Besides keeping you sane, you can also ask them to take photos of the party so that you can be in them too. Plus, you’ll have mimosa buddies. And if you’re cosy with some of the moms, delegate!

Save presents for later

My kids can usually hardly wait for present time, but they’ve learned that it’s a lot more special to savor the moment after guests have gone home and it’s just us. So, once guests have put all their gifts down, I move them to another room until the party is over. It’s less distracting! Plus, then you have time to write nice thank-you notes as you go and you can involve your child in the process.

Be prepared for last minute shows

I always slightly over-cater and have a couple spare party bags on hand in case extra children show up unannounced. Apparently they get trained in this young, but what can you do? The more the merrier and my kids are always delighted to have more of their friends show up.
