Two to four weeks ahead is comfortable for most balloon bookings. Spring and fall Saturdays are the first slots to go. With 3 balloon artists serving Boston, you usually have real choice even on shorter notice, though the best-reviewed pros fill peak Saturday slots first.

In Boston, balloon art is typically a 60–90 minute booking: every guest leaves holding their own creation. A balloon artist works the room like a mini-show: kids crowd in to watch a few quick twists become a sword, a puppy, a crown — or whatever they shout out — and everyone walks away holding their own creation. Most Boston bookings run 60–90 minutes, long enough for a full guest list, with the artist moving fast so nobody waits.

For custom creations, about 10 to 15 kids an hour — GigSalad's guide and Bazinga, a New York balloon company, both put it there. Simple pre-set shapes like dogs, flowers and swords go much faster: GigSalad says about 25 an hour, and Bubbles Productions says 45 to 50. For bigger guest lists, add time rather than rushing the designs.

Tell the artist about any latex allergy when you book, because most twisting balloons are natural latex. Some balloon companies can bring a latex-free setup — Bazinga in New York lists one — and if yours can't, pairing the party with a latex-free act is the safer call. Pick up popped balloon scraps straight away, too: broken balloons are a choking hazard for young children.
