For a good five months of the year a garden party is not an option, which is why the Twin Cities have unusually strong indoor options — and why the good slots at them go early. All three picks below are fully indoors and work in February as well as they do in June.
A note on geography: two of these are in St Paul rather than Minneapolis proper and one is in Bloomington. That is normal for Twin Cities party planning, but check the drive before you send the invitations. All three were verified in July 2026.
Como Park Zoo & Conservatory

Animals and a glasshouse full of plants on one site, free to enter, and genuinely lovely in the depths of winter when the conservatory is warm and green and everything outside is not.
The combination is what makes it work for a mixed-age guest list: the zoo holds the older children, the conservatory is a calm place to walk a toddler, and the grounds give everyone somewhere to go between cake and home time. It sits in St Paul, about twenty minutes from downtown Minneapolis.
Minnesota Children's Museum
10 W 7th St, St Paul, MN 55102
Purpose-built for children and, crucially, built for them to touch everything. Four floors of hands-on galleries in downtown St Paul, pitched at roughly six months to ten years, with the exhibits doing the entertaining so nobody has to run games.
It is the safest choice on this list for a party where the ages are all over the place — there is something age-appropriate on every floor, and the building is designed so a parent with a baby and a parent with a nine-year-old can both have a manageable afternoon.
The Works Museum

A hands-on engineering and tinkering museum in Bloomington, and the one to pick for a child who would rather build something than look at it. Birthday packages run ninety minutes or two hours, cover admission for up to ten children, and — the detail that matters — include all the setup and clean-up.
Adults get in free with the party, and the two-hour package adds an adult-led activity so there is a structured chunk in the middle rather than ninety minutes of unshaped enthusiasm. They recommend it for school-age children, roughly five to twelve.
What about the Science Museum of Minnesota?
It comes up in every older round-up of Twin Cities birthday venues, including ours. As of July 2026 the Science Museum is not hosting birthday parties, so we have left it off rather than send you to a booking page that does not exist.
The Works Museum in Bloomington is the closest substitute for what people wanted from it: hands-on, science-and-engineering flavoured, and built around making things.
Booking in a Minnesota winter
Book earlier than feels reasonable. Between November and March every indoor venue in the Twin Cities is doing the same trade, and weekend slots at the museums go first.
Think about coats. Twenty children in snow gear need somewhere to put it, and a venue with proper cloakroom space is worth more in January than an extra exhibit.
Give yourself a buffer on arrival time. Winter driving plus a car park plus getting small children out of layers is reliably fifteen minutes longer than you planned.

Are there good indoor party venues in Minneapolis for winter?
